THE M1917 AMMUNITION PACKING BOX

A Brief History - The M1917 Ammunition Packing Box
The M1917 Ammunition Packing Box was the U.S. Military's standard wooden transit case for bulk ammunition from WWI through the early years of WWII. Designed to be opened once then discarded, the lid was secured by brass wingnuts over threaded metal posts, with handles milled directly into the ends of the chest.
The large variant was used for .30 and .50 caliber ammunition. It measured 18½" × 9½" × 14½", making our reproduction dimensionally faithful to the originals.
Mid to late-war crates were stenciled in white or yellow with caliber, ammunition type, round count, packing method, and lot number. Our stencils are sourced from original WWII Ordnance references.
